If you’re planning to visit Ghana anytime soon (whether to explore tourist centres, visit your loved ones, or conduct businesses), you’ll need to get a visa before you can even board a plane. Perhaps, you are wondering “can i get a visa upon arrival in Ghana?” Well, the answer is yes! But then, there are still some eligibility conditions you have to consider, as well as how you can apply for one. Keep reading for more information.
What are the eligibility conditions for getting a visa upon arrival?
You’re eligible for getting a visa upon arrival if:
- You’re planning an urgent business trip or some unforeseen situation demands that you be in Ghana immediately, then you’ll need this visa so that you don’t wait for a long time before you get the conventional one.
- Your country doesn’t have a Ghanaian consulate or embassy. However, you can come in visa-free if you come from an ECOWAS member country.
- You live in Ghana and your entry permit expires while you are in another country.
- You are a guest of the Ghanaian Government or part of a delegation coming at such a short notice.
How should you apply for a visa upon arrival?
Thankfully, the GIS has made the process easier for you and other travellers; your host in Ghana has to apply for one on your behalf, presenting the following:
- Passport details
- Country of origin
- Arrival date
- Duration of stay
- A detailed description of your visit’s purpose
- Accomodation (lodging) address
- Address abroad
- Telephone number
- Email address
- Profession or occupation.
In addition to these, your host must also support your coming with these documents from their side:
Corporate entities
- Tax clearance certificate
- Certificate of incorporation
- Certificate to commence business
- Company’s regulations
- Audited accounts for companies operating for over five years
Individuals
- Bank statements
- Residence permit copy for non-Ghanaians
- BioData page of their passport
- BioData page of your passport
- Proof of your accomodation in Ghana.
Other important information you should know
You should note that you’ll pay $150 for a visa upon arrival, especially because it’s processing is way faster than the others. Plus, you don’t really need a hard copy before you are allowed into the country. Your host just has to scan a copy to you, which you can present on your smart device to your choice airline or immigration, or print. But don’t forget – you need to have this visa before even booking your ticket, cos the airlines won’t let you on board if you don’t have it. If it’s not ready, just show them a proof (which your host will give you), and you’re good to go.
